Whisker's Weekley Sept 6, 2024

Posted on

It’s hard to believe that the first week of school is in the books but that is where we find ourselves. Over the course of the first week, we have observed our students acting in kind, respectful, responsible, and safe ways, both in the school and on the playground.   It is heartwarming to see students help each other when they are hurt or feeling alone. These positive behaviours and so many more define who we are at Rainbow Creek, and we are all incredibly lucky to be part of such a supportive and caring learning community.

Welcome Assembly – On Thursday, September 5 our entire learning community gathered in the gym for our welcome back assembly. Our amazing staff members were identified for students and important reminders and expectations were shared with students to ensure that our school continues to be a safe and caring place for everyone.

Open House – It was so nice to see many of our parents, guardians, and students come out to our welcome back open house on Thursday evening. Thank you for taking the time to meet your child’s teacher and tour the school. We look forward to working with you this year!

Power School (School Engage) – We encourage our parents to monitor Power School frequently. PowerSchool allows administrators, teachers, parents and students to access grades and assignments, attendance, teacher comments, student schedules, and a variety of other information. This information is very powerful because it provides users with real time and ongoing reporting.   If you haven’t already done so, please log into your Power School (School Engage account) to complete the necessary re-enrolment forms and annual authorization forms so that teachers are able to support students with their learning and engagement in tasks and activities.

Playground Safety and Reminders: The wasps are out and very active! We are encouraging students to play away from the garbage cans where there is a lot of wasp activity.   Rocks should not be picked up and thrown or used on the play structure. They create an uneven and slippery surface. Thank you for your help in keeping all students safe at the play structure.

Lost and Found: We have accumulated many jackets and sweatshirts over the last few days. Students are encouraged to come to the main entrance and pick up any lost items.

Picture Day – Bring your smiles! Wednesday, September 18. Information brochures will be sent home with your child next week to outline what to expect for picture day!

Looking Ahead….

School Council Meeting – Our first meeting will take place on Tuesday, September 24th from 6-7:30 in the Maker’s Space.

Terry Fox Run – Students will participate in the annual Terry Fox Run on Thursday, September 26th at 1:15 pm.

Three Way Conferences – Our first round of conferences will take place on October 23 and 24 from 4-7 pm. The focus of our first round of conferences will be goal setting for the year ahead. Please don’t hesitate to reach out through email or phone calls if you have questions or concerns prior to our meetings.

Orange Shirt Day – Friday, September 27.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation – No School on Monday, September 30.
