Grade 6 Vaccinations – Tuesday, October 23, 2024

Hello Rainbow Creek Families: What a busy week at the Creek! We were very fortunate to have Stacey and Syrianna Running Rabbit share their Blackfoot culture and Powwow dances with our students and staff.

We had our first fire drill this week and it was very successful. The students were able to demonstrate the importance of getting out of the building quickly and calmly. Good job, everyone!

Our Learning community participated in the annual Terry Fox run and walk. What a successful event. Our fastest runners completed six laps. Thank you to Ms. Dahl for her hard work organizing the event.  Special thanks to all of our parent/guardian volunteers for helping to cheer our students and staff on and for ensuring that our students safely navigated the route.

Thank you, Peace Officer Steinfeld for being on the route to help our students cross the roads safely.  We appreciate all of you!

AP 148 Personal Mobile Devices Reminder

Parents and students are reminded that our focus at school is on learning. We are very pleased to see that phones and tablets are being left at home. A gentle reminder that smart watches should also be left at home and not worn to school. As well, students are reminded that personal mobile devices need to be left at home on fieldtrip days. Thank you for your cooperation

Student Safety

Bus Loop and Student Drop Off - We are asking that parents choose safety over convenience when dropping off your student(s). We would kindly ask that parents do not drive into or through the Bus Loop. The Bus Loop is for buses only. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Student safety is of upmost importance to us at Rainbow Creek Elementary School. It is imperative that you have updated the Emergency Contact/Pick-up portion of your demographic forms. This includes any daycare or afterschool care programs. We CANNOT release a student to anyone not listed. If you have already completed your demographic forms but would like to add someone to the list, please email rainbowcreek@rockyview.ab.ca with the student's name, the Contact's Name, Relation to Student, Phone Number, and if you would like to grant the person permission to pick up your child and/or add them as an emergency contact.

If a circumstance arises where there is a last minute change to pick-up, please email the school and the teacher as we do require written permission.

We will have to keep your child at the school until we have written permission or a person on the existing list picks the child up.

Student Council Events

Last week, each class selected two representatives to be the voice of their peers. Our student council will be meeting monthly to plan fun and engaging activities, including spirit days, fundraisers, and school-wide events that foster a sense of community. We’ve got some exciting things planned for October:

  • Stuff the Turkey Food Bank Drive (October 1st–10th)
In the spirit of giving, we’re launching our “Stuff the Turkey” drive to support the Chestermere Food Bank. If you’re able, we would love for your family to send a few non-perishable items with your child before Thanksgiving. Suggested items include small cereal boxes, fruit or pudding cups, juice boxes, granola bars, fruit snacks, jam, rice, dish soap, Kleenex, toilet paper, and paper towels. Our students will compete within their Colour Houses to see which house can bring in the most donations—it's a fun way to give back!
  • Colour House Day (October 3rd)
We are thrilled to bring back our Colour Houses this year! Students will remain in the same Colour House aslast year, and new students will be assigned their Colour House by Tuesday (October 1st). On October 3rd, we’ll gather as Colour Houses to build team spirit, play games, and get to know each other. Please encourage your child to wear something that matches their Colour House (a shirt, headband, socks, etc.) to show their team pride!

Fire Prevention and Safety assembly!  Tuesday, October 15. Our Division I and II students will have an assembly in the afternoon.

Looking Ahead….

Three Way Conferences – Our first round of conferences will take place on October 23 and 24 from 4-7 pm. The focus of our first round of conferences will be goal setting for the year ahead. Please don’t hesitate to reach out through email or phone calls if you have questions or concerns prior to our meetings.

Upcoming Student Council Events

Dress-Up Day (October 31st)
Halloween is just around the corner, and we invite students to wear their costumes to school on October 31st! Please remember that costumes should be school-appropriate: no masks, blood, guts, weapons, or overly scary elements, and students must follow the dress code. We can’t wait to see the creativity of our students in their costumes!

Freezie Friday

Because it’s been hot we’re bringing it back for October! Freezie Friday is a School Council fundraiser that helps raise money to support our wonderful school. This money goes toward supplementing field trips, music presentations, and other fun initiatives for the students at Rainbow Creek.

Starting October 4, 2024, every student from Kindergarten - Grade 6 can purchase a Freezie at morning break. Freezie helpers will come to classrooms to sell Freezies for 25¢ each.  Only two Freezies maximum can be purchased by any student. Please send quarters (max 50¢) with your students on Fridays to purchase
